DTN WEEKLY ROUND UP:  Business took place on Wednesday last 
week, with a little cleanup on Thursday and Friday. Southern 
live deals had a range of $123 to $124.50, mostly $124, 
steady with the previous week's weighted averages. Northern 
dressed trade had a full range of $193 to $196, mostly $196, 
fully steady with the prior week's weighted average basis 
Nebraska. According to Thursday's Daily Direct Slaughter 
Cattle Summary reports the accumulated weekly average price 
totals are as follows (the prior week's weighted averages are 
listed in parentheses): KS $123.96($123.41); NE 
$195.84($195.40); TX $123.95($123.96); IA $195.56($195.28); 
CO $124.00($124.00).

According to the Friday Afternoon Daily Direct Slaughter 
Cattle reports weekly trade volume totals were: KS 14,095; NE 
30,897; TX 5,887; IA 27,834, CO 660. Friday's slaughter 
totaled 107,000 head, 9,000 less than both the prior week and 
year. Saturday's kill was estimated at 59,000 head, bringing 
the weekly total to 646,000 head, 11,000 below the previous 
week and 13,000 under 2020. 

The weekly averages for boxed beef cutouts and boxed beef 
cuts: choice $280.55(-5.86), select $261.00(-3.61), with an 
average choice select spread of $19.55(-2.26), and a total 
load count including cuts, trimmings, and grinds of 753(+33). 
Changes from the prior week are listed in parentheses. 

For the week ending October 09, 2021, Imported Beef Passed for 
Entry in the U.S. totaled 46,223, 97.72% of the previous week 
and 104.97% of the 4-week average. 

DTN MORNING COMMENTS: A typically quiet Monday morning with 
both buyers and sellers busy taking inventory. Bids and asking 
prices are not established as of yet. Significant trade volume 
will likely be delayed until Wednesday or later. Beef cutouts 
are expected to be lower with generally light box movement.
